UPDATE: May 2014: BFS has moved to Florida.

Welcome to BFS Senior & Special Needs Cat Sanctuary & Rescue. It takes a special person to be able to rescue older cats, most people dont want to be bothered because in their eyes they are old. This is not true. Some cats have been known to live over 20 years. So just because a cat is 20 doesn't mean their lives are over.

We provide a loving environment for the senior cats. They have full access to the whole area, they are not locked in cages unless they are special needs and need to be monitored. We pay for everything out of our own pockets so any donation of any kind is always gladly welcome and appreciated. We are a not for profit organization. We provide no kill sanctuary for Senior and special needs cats who other wise wouldn't be able to live. Most shelters consider 12 years old for a feline "unadoptable" and therefore euthanized.

We also rescue cats from high-kill shelters across Oklahoma and Texas especially the ones that are in danger at gas chamber shelters. We rescue them, get them up to date on their vaccinations, then spay/neuter them to get them ready for adoption in a good home. Also we take FIV+ and Felv+ kitties as well since they are the first ones to be killed in shelters.

Our Mission:

To provide adequate care for Senior and special needs cats.

Provide a safe haven for senior cats who can live the rest of their lives without being caged.

To operate a non-profit, no-kill shelter and adoption center for indigent cats

To provide shelter and care for those animals not suitable for adoption, for the duration of their lives

To rescue, rehabilitate, and care for lost and abandoned animals;

To find loving and caring new homes for those animals which are suitable for adoption

Please note: BFS does not receive any state, city or federal funding. We rely on donations from individuals to help provide the care for the seniors.  All donations both small and large are truly appreciated.

My job is to assist God's creatures. I was born with the drive to fulfill their needs. I take in helpless, unwanted, homeless creatures without planning or selection.

I have bought dog food with my last dime. I have patted a mangy head with a bare hand. I have hugged someone vicious and afraid. I have fallen in love a thousand times. And I have cried into the fur of a lifeless body too many times to count.

I have Animal Friends, and friends who have Animal Friends. I don't often use the word No. I notice those lost on the roadside And my HEART ACHES.

I will hand raise a field mouse and make friends with a vulture. I know of no creature unworthy of my time. I want to live forever if there aren't animals in Heaven, but I believe there are. Why would God make something so perfect and leave it behind?

War and abuse make me hurt for the world, but a rescue that makes the news gives me hope for all mankind.

We are a quiet but determined army and we are making a difference everyday.

By the love of those who I have been privileged to rescue, I have been rescued. I know what unconditional love really is, for I've seen it shining in the eyes of so many, grateful for so little.

I am an Animal Rescuer. My work is never done. My home is never quiet. My wallet is always empty, but my heart is always full.

1. When you adopt me, remember that my life is likely to last 15 to 20 years. Please don't forsake me, any separation from you is painful.

2. Please give me time to understand what it is you want from me. Change can be more difficult for me than for you.

3. Please don't be angry with me for a long time, and don't lock me up alone as punishment. You have your human family, your friends, your entertainment and I ONLY HAVE YOU!!!

4. Please trust me and help me to trust you . . . it is crucial for mine as well as your well being.

5. Talk to me . . . even if you think I don't understand your words I understand your voice and love it when you speak to me and stroke me.

6. Before you hit me remember that I have teeth and claws and could easily hurt you but I choose not to bite and scratch you because I love you..

7. Be aware, that however you treat me, I WILL NEVER FORGET!!!

8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative or bad, ask yourself if maybe something is wrong and there is another reason for my behavior. Perhaps I am sick, hot, old or just plain tired, frustrated and weak. PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND WHAT IT IS LIKE TO BE ME AND PUT YOURSELF IN MY PLACE.

9. Please take care of me when I get old and don't abandon me, for you too will grow old. Please notice when I am ill because I need you to take me to the vet for help when I am ill just as you need to see a doctor.

10. Go with me on the most difficult journeys. Never say, "I can't bear to watch" or "Do it when I leave" because I need you with me even at the end of my journeys. Please always do what is best for me even if it is unbearable for you to do so because I love you and trust that you will.
